To say that Shaun Dobson fought hard for his podium finish in last Saturday night’s second World Series Sprintcars Championship round at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway would be quite the understatement.

20 11 2016 2The pilot of the ACT # 21 Essendon Ford / Quantum Quartz backed Cool ended up in third place on the podium at the completion of the feature race behind winner Jamie Veal and second-placed Robbie Farr.

As one would expect, Dobson was rapt to come away with his first podium finish of the 2016-17 season and also finally come away with a result to back up the speed he has shown throughout the early stages of this season.

“We’ve been fast so far this season, but we haven’t had any results to show for it – until now,” expressed Dobson, who had qualified third for the feature race after an impressive run from the Bronze to the Gold Shootout.

“Our night started off strongly with a good run in time trials, and we were just able to build on that and managed to come away with a pleasing result after a consistent and hard-fought run with some of the country’s best racers.”

Dobson was quick to heap praise on the efforts of the entire Dobson Motorsport team – especially crew chief Shane Finch.

“The whole team has been working hard all season, so it’s great to finally be able to reward them with a good result,” said the 23-year-old racer from Hobart in Tasmania.

“Shane has been a wonderful addition to our team, and to have a guy of his experience in our corner is certainly playing a part in helping us run towards the front of the field on a more consistent basis.”

Earlier in the night, Dobson had recorded the eighth fastest lap in time trials and then earned his spot into the Bronze Shootout by finishing his two heat races in seventh and third place respectively – both from towards the back of the field.

Dobson’s focus now is this Saturday night’s Victorian 410 Sprintcar Title at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway. With the team’s confidence high following their World Series podium finish, they’re aiming to contend for another podium finish.

The Dobson Motorsport team would like to thank their 2016-17 season sponsors: Essendon Ford, Quantum Quartz, Road & River Motorcycles, Albert Road Store - Hobart, Castrol Oil, and Cool Chassis.
