The 2016-17 has been a breakout 410 Sprintcar season for Shaun Dobson, who contested his final race meeting recently, with the Tasmanian-based racer having achieved a number of impressive results.

23 4 2017 Shaun Dobson 1Closing his season on a high by collecting his second 2016-17 season feature-race win in the opening Easter Trail round at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway recently, Dobson narrowly missed out on winning the overall Easter Trail point standings, finishing second to Darren Mollenoyux by a single point.

A model of consistency throughout each of his 28 contested race meetings, Dobson’s season has seen him build up an impressive feature-race qualification rate of 75%, while also remarkably finishing 14 of his 16 contested feature races inside the top 10 (87.5%), and nine of those inside the top five (85.7%).

Having completed the majority of shows at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway, one of Australia’s premier tracks which constantly produces high car counts and extremely tough competition, Dobson also managed to win eight heat races throughout the season out of the 39 he completed, placing inside the top five in 29 of those (74.4%). With the important of time trials being paramount in getting each race meeting off to a solid start, Dobson also finished within the top five for 18 out of 26 qualifying time trials, giving him a solid percentage of 69.2%

Dobson’s reliability on the track, which he greatly credits to the involvement of his crew, in particular Shane Finch, and his sponsors, earned him a pleasing third-place finish in the overall Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Chase point standings and sixth overall in the USC NSW, as well as five podium results.

“After eight seasons in Sprintcars, 2016-17 season has been fantastic for us and it’s the kind of season we’ve been working towards, which is in no small part thanks to the hard work my team constantly puts in, especially Shane, who looks after the car on a full-time basis in Sydney,” enthused Dobson, whose season was highlighted by winning the $20,000 to win Scott Darley Challenge at Valvoline Raceway back in January and he also managed to go through the entire season using the same top wing that he started it with.

“The consistency we’ve experienced this season has made such a difference to me as a driver and has given myself and the team added confidence in what we can achieve.

“I also have to give a huge thanks to all of my dedicated sponsors. None of this would be possible without them, so I can’t thank them enough for their amazing support.”

The Dobson Motorsport team would like to thank their 2016-17 season sponsors: Essendon Ford, Quantum Quartz, Road & River Motorcycles, Albert Road Store - Hobart, Joinery Supplies Tasmania, Castrol Oil, Thomo’s Race Graphix, Cool Chassis, and KRE Race Engines.

A special thanks must go out to Andrew (dad), pit crew members Shane, Craig, Darren and James, Kelly Linigen and Carl Trofa for their hospitality, and David and Gayle Dickson from Essendon Ford.
