It has been a mixed start to the 2017-18 season for Shaun Dobson, but over the Christmas-New Year period he has turned in some pleasing results, including a podium finish during the most recent Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series round at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.

In what was his best result since stepping into the Vic # 3 David Dickson Motorsport Cool car, Dobson showed good pace at Avalon Raceway on Boxing Night by leading the opening half of the feature race before going on to finish in second place.

Two nights later at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway for the third World Series Sprintcars Championship round, Dobson continued his impressive speed to bring home a fifth-place finish at the feature race’s conclusion.

Despite showing good speed at the following WSS Championship rounds at Avalon Raceway (December 30) and Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway (January 1), Dobson was unable to come away with a result.

“First of all, I can’t thank David and Gayle Dickson enough for their support and understanding this season, especially when I had to take a month’s break due to birth of my first child with my partner Bree,” commented Dobson.

“I have been pretty strong throughout the Christmas-New Year period and the highlights were getting on the podium at Avalon and then backing it up with a good World Series round result at Borderline Speedway.

“Huge thanks must go out to my team for all of their continual hard work, and I’m looking forward to returning behind the wheel of the Vic # 3 car for the Grand Annual Classic and Australian Championship later this month, and I’m confident that we can deliver a strong showing.”

The focus for Dobson now over the next fortnight will be to step back into the family-owned VA # 21 Albert Road Store / Powerstroke Automotive-supported Cool car. Dobson and the team recently arrived in Queensland in readiness for tonight’s sixth WSS Championship round at Brisbane Archerfield Speedway. The seventh WSS Championship will be held back at Archerfield Speedway over two nights this Friday and Saturday night. After that, Dobson will travel to Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway to defend the Scott Darley Challenge on the following Friday and Saturday night.

“It’s been a couple of months since I’ve driven the family-owned car, but I’m really looking forward to hopefully putting in some strong performances,” Dobson said.
