It certainly wasn’t an easy Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship campaign for Shaun Dobson, but a hard-fought top-10 result saw him close the weekend on a positive note.

In what was his third visit to Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway for the season, Dobson, driving the Vic # 3 David Dickson Motorsport Cool car, was forced to qualify into the Australian Championship via a third-place finish in the B main and he then made up great ground throughout the feature race to come home in 10th place.

“Our team had great speed throughout the weekend and had it not been for some misfortune in Thursday night’s preliminary feature race, then we probably would’ve qualifier higher for Saturday night’s feature race,” said Dobson in reference to him being the innocent party in an opening lap incident during the preliminary feature race, which sidelined him after he had started from position seven.

“I can’t thank the entire David Dickson Motorsport team enough, along with all of our sponsors, for playing a big part in us being able to salvage a result in the Australian Championship weekend.”

For the first time since the 2014 Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship, Dobson, driving the family-owned VA # 21 Albert Road Store / Powerstroke Automotive-backed Cool car, is competing in his home state of Tasmania over the next fortnight for the next three World Series Sprintcar Championship rounds.

This Friday and Saturday night (February 2 and 3) will see the running of rounds eight and nine at Latrobe’s Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway, followed by the 10th round at Hobart Speedway, which is regarded as Dobson’s home track, on the Saturday night of February 10.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back home and racing in my home state,” he enthused.

“I have a lot of local race fans in Tasmania and it’s going to be great to see them all out at the track. It’s also good for my sponsors to see the car they support running in their home state.”
